CHICAGO --- Hitting "A" standard marks in each of their events during the seven-day period between Jan. 16-22 have earned St. Ambrose University's Annah Miller (Manito, Ill.) and Mick Saloninas (Downers Grove, Ill.) Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the Week accord, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Miller gained her CCAC Women's Field honor after winning the shot put event among 20 participants at SAU's own Bumble Rumble on Saturday. Her throw of 44 feet, 6.25 inches is the top effort in the league and ranks 10th best in the nation. It also locked up a trip to the NAIA Indoor National Championships in March for the junior.
Saloninas garnered the CCAC men's weekly field honor by winning the shot put event at SAU's own Bumble Rumble on Saturday. The senior's best throw covered 54 feet to defeat the rest of the 25-person field.
The effort represents the second time this year that Saloninas has hit the "A" mark. Earlier this winter, he recorded a distance of 55 feet, 9.75 inches, which is the top throw in the CCAC and the fifth-best mark in the NAIA this season.
