Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., a member of the U.S. Congress representing Iowa’s 1st district since 2021, used her social media platform on October 5, 2025, to criticize Democratic leadership over the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on various public services.
In a post made at 14:23 UTC, Miller-Meeks stated, "It is now Day 5 of the Schumer Shutdown. How much longer will he and the Democrats put illegal immigrants over American citizens?"
Later that day, at 16:47 UTC, she commented on healthcare disruptions due to the shutdown: "Telehealth appointments are being cancelled across America because Democrats chose healthcare for illegal immigrants and $1.5 trillion in new spending over America's seniors. #SchumerShutdown https://t.co/XLTlkfhABf"
By the evening, Miller-Meeks addressed concerns about corrections officers’ pay during the funding lapse: "Our brave corrections officers put their lives on the line every day to keep violent criminals off the streets. Because of the Democrat shutdown, they’re now doing that dangerous work without a paycheck. https://t.co/OHBDDNjcfB"
