Students planning on, or considering, enrolling at Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) can get help with completing scholarship applications during a special Scholarship Night, Wednesday, February 1. The session begins at 5 p.m. at each of EICC’s Clinton, Muscatine and Scott Community Colleges.
Scholarship Night is open to both students and their families. Topics covered will include information about dozens of EICC Scholarships, including Iowa’s Last Dollar Program, as well as how to find and apply for scholarships, write a strong goal statement, and determine what to include in scholarship applications.
“The college awards thousands of dollars to deserving students every year,” said Associate Director for Postsecondary Transition, Tishly Herrington. “That’s why we encourage everyone to apply. It doesn’t cost anything to do so, other than a little time. Many students are surprised to find out they do qualify.”
There truly is something for everyone, not just the top of the class. While some scholarships are based on academic excellence, many others are based on factors such as financial need, community involvement, or area of study. Everyone is encouraged to apply.
The sessions will be held at:
- Clinton Community College, 1000 Lincoln Blvd., Clinton, Room 129
- Muscatine Community College, 152 Colorado St., Muscatine, Library Computer Lab
- Scott Community College, 500 Belmont Rd., Bettendorf, Room 2408
Herrington also called attention to the college’s Connections Scholarship for high school students who have taken classes through EICC while still in high school. That scholarship is awarded to students who have taken as little as just one class at Clinton, Muscatine or Scott Community College. It does not require filing the FAFSA. The simple, one-page, application can be found at eicc.edu/connections. The deadline for filing is also March 1.
