Agriculture Visit Day scheduled for Nov. 16 at Muscatine Community College

According to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, Iowa is the number one producer of pork, corn, eggs, ethanol, and biodiesel. To keep up with this kind of demand, trained professionals are needed in all areas of the industry.

For those interested in exploring ag-related career opportunities at Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC), the Agriculture program at Muscatine Community College (MCC) is hosting a visit day on Wednesday, November 16, from 9 – 11 a.m. The event will be held in Gaekle Hall, 152 Colorado St., Muscatine.

Register for the visit visit.

“As a college, the agriculture department has been on the forefront of innovation for quite some time. MCC was the first community college to offer an agribusiness associate’s degree. We listen to employers in the servicing region and continuously research industry needs to provide new and unique opportunities for our students,” said Julia Dieckman, MCC Agriculture Instructor.

Students enrolled in any ag-related program can expect to gain valuable, hands-on training through paid internship opportunities. Totaling over 2,000 hours, most students earn more than the cost of tuition. In addition, the college offers ag-specific scholarships, professional development through state and national organizations, travel opportunities, and assistance with career placement.

At the visit, students and their families can learn more about programs offered at MCC including Agribusiness Equipment Technician, Turf and Landscape Management, Agribusiness Management, and Farm Management.

For students wishing to pursue a bachelor’s degree, the college also holds formal transfer agreements with Iowa State University and Iowa Wesleyan University in Agriculture Business, Ag Education, Agronomy, and Animal Science. These Transfer Majors provide a complete blueprint for your move to a four-year college or university.
