SAU returns to action at Grand View Viking Invitational

St. Ambrose returned to action Saturday at the Grand View Viking Invitational. The Bee men finished fifth and the women were eighth in the event run at the DMACC campus in Ankeny, Iowa.

The top six runners for the SAU men finished within a minute of each other. The top four were just 22 seconds apart.

Dayton Hauger led the way in the 8K, placing 26th overall in a time of 27:54. Luke Benes was on his heels, taking 29th in 28:00. Ian Eller was 30th in 28:07 and Chris Miserendino was 33rd in 28:16.

Kale Cartee (39th in 28:41) and Nathan Boleyn (43rd in 28:51) were less than a minute behind Hauger. Noah Maske (29:03), Brennon Munch (29:33), Bryan Flentge (30:09), Jon Kaleka (30:16) and Ross Willerth (30:21) also competed for St. Ambrose.

As she has all season, freshman Adeline Smith led the Fighting Bee women. She ran the 5K in a team-best 20:27, good for 13th overall.

Allison Hein was 53rd in 23:31 and Jayne Eilderts placed 59th in 23:53. Loryn Heil finished in 26:15 and Rylee McCrery was right behind in 26:29.

SAU will compete in the Bethel Invitational in South Bend, Ind., on Oct. 7.
