Benes wins Short Course Invite; Dowda takes second

Luke Benes slipped past Will Dowda down the stretch to win SAU's Short Course Invite Saturday afternoon at Emeis Park in Davenport.

Benes overtook Dowda, who led the majority of the 5K race, late and came in with a time of 17:05.48. Dowda took second in 17:15.05.

The two sophomores led the team as the young Bees claimed the top seven spots and nine of the top 10 in the season-opening race to easily out-point Scott Community College.

The top six Bees all finished inside 18 minutes. Kale Cartee was third in 17:28.19. Chris Miserendino (17:36.70), Dayton Hauger (17:37.38) and Ian Eller (17:44.86) rounded out the top six.

Noah Maske was seventh in 18:14.39. Brennon Munch (ninth in 18:40.68) and Jon Kaleka (10th in 19:06.57) also earned spots in the top 10.

St. Ambrose will host its annual Fighting Bee Invitational at Crow Creek Park in Bettendorf, Iowa, next Saturday.
