St. Ambrose University Athletics issued the following announcement.
St. Ambrose fell to conference foe Saint Xavier, 1-0, on Saturday night in Chicago. The loss drops the Bees to 3-2-1 overall and 0-2 in the CCAC.
Forward Spencer Pyle had a chance to give SAU the lead in the 14th minute, but his header was saved by Joel Estrada. SXU (4-4, 2-1 CCAC) got the breakthrough in the 20th minute, scoring from 25-yards out. Blake Biery had his attempt blocked in the 22nd minute, and Saint Xavier would have two shots go wide left as the first half would end with St. Ambrose down a goal.
SAU would push for an equalizer in the second half as Joseph Gaither had three shot attempts in five minutes. Piercarlo Ricossa made a stop in the 58th minute to keep the deficit at one. Sam Flello's opportunity went wide in the 65th, and Hayden Newton's chance was high in the 68th. The Bees had a final chance to get the tie, but Rory Hannon's header in the 90th minute was saved by the Cougar keeper.
Ricossa finished with two saves in the loss. Ricossa and four other Bees - Brady Butler, Noah Secor, Mitchell Petrosky, and Nathan Lukasik - played all 90 minutes.
The Bees will travel to Roosevelt University on September 21st for another CCAC contest at 6 p.m.
