Learn about Ag Careers at Muscatine Community College – Nov. 17

Classs

Eastern Iowa Community College recently issued the following announcement.

The Midwest was built on agriculture and much of our economy continues to be driven by crops, livestock and related products. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Iowa is the second-largest agricultural producing state, bringing in approximately $29 billion annually.

To keep up with this kind of demand, trained professionals are needed in all areas of the industry. For those interested in exploring ag-related career opportunities, Muscatine Community College’s (MCC) Agriculture Program is hosting a visit day on Wednesday, November 17, from 9 – 11 a.m. The event will be held in Gaekle Hall at the college, 152 Colorado St.

“MCC produced the first community college agribusiness program in the state of Iowa,” said Jayln Parker, MCC Associate Professor of Agriculture. “The college provides its students with new and unique programs that fit the ever-changing agriculture industry and careers in the field.”

Agricultural programs at MCC include Agribusiness Equipment Technician, Turf and Landscape Management, Agriculture Systems Technology, Precision Agribusiness, Agribusiness Management , Farm Management and Industrial Hemp Production.

In partnership with Iowa State University and Iowa Wesleyan University, the college has also added transfer majors in Agriculture Business, Ag Education, Agronomy and Animal Science. These Transfer Major Associate Degrees lay out the precise course path students complete at MCC before continuing on to the four-year college to which they transfer. The partner universities have both agreed on these classes, giving the courses their academic seal of approval.

Students enrolled in MCC’s Ag Programs gain valuable hands-on training through paid internship opportunities, with many often earning more than the cost of tuition. Ag-specific scholarships, professional development through state and national organizations, travel opportunities and assistance with career placement also make MCC a top choice.
