Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Iowa's 1st district, has shared several updates via social media regarding her personal history and legislative efforts. Her communications highlight both her deep-rooted military family background and her ongoing work on a bill aimed at economic relief for certain workers.
On June 18, 2025, Rep. Miller-Meeks reflected on her family's extensive military service. She stated, "I served in the Army for 24 years. I married a service member. My father, grandfather, uncle, and five of my seven siblings wore the uniform. Service runs deep in my family, and so does love of country." The tweet underscores her personal connection to the military community.
The following day, on June 19, 2025, she addressed economic policy through legislation aimed at benefiting tipped workers. She tweeted that "Tipped workers deserve to keep more of what they earn." The proposed "One Big, Beautiful Bill" seeks to eliminate federal taxes on tips as a means to reward hard work.
Later that same day, she highlighted support from agricultural communities for this legislative initiative by referencing local farmers' backing. In another post, she noted that "Iowa farmers like Joe from DeWitt support the One Big, Beautiful Bill because it delivers for our agricultural communities!"
Miller-Meeks has been serving Iowa’s 1st District since replacing Dave Loebsack in 2021 after having served in the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021. Born in Herlong, California in 1955 and now residing in Le Claire, she holds a BSN degree from Texas Christian University obtained in 1976.
