Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., who represents Iowa's 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared her views on energy policy and media accountability through a series of tweets. The congresswoman has been serving since 2021 after succeeding Dave Loebsack and has previously served in the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021.
On June 16, 2025, Miller-Meeks expressed her support for new energy initiatives by stating that "After nearly four years without new leases, mandating new leases for onshore oil, gas, and coal and resuming critical mineral development means more American energy, more good paying jobs, and lower prices at the pump." She emphasized that "The One Big Beautiful Bill Act delivers true energy."
Later that day, she criticized a publication for its reporting on veterans' issues. In a tweet posted at 21:22 UTC, she wrote "This is low, even for a publication like the Guardian." Asserting her credentials as a veteran and Chair of the VA Health subcommittee, she stated that it was "a complete and utter lie meant to stoke fear in our veterans," adding that "They should be ashamed of themselves."
Further supporting energy policy changes initiated by former President Trump, Miller-Meeks tweeted at 22:11 UTC about legislative efforts to bolster American energy dominance. She noted that "President Trump promised to restore American energy dominance, and the One Big Beautiful Bill Act does just that." The act aims to reopen oil and gas leasing while advancing nuclear energy and reducing utility costs.
Miller-Meeks was born in Herlong, California in 1955 and resides in Le Claire. She holds a BSN from Texas Christian University.
