Mariannette Miller-Meeks addresses border security and industry achievements

Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., a member of the U.S. Congress representing Iowa’s 1st district since 2021, has been vocal on social media about various issues impacting national and local interests. Her recent tweets cover topics from border security to advancements in defense manufacturing and international trade relations.

On June 8, 2025, Rep. Miller-Meeks emphasized her stance on immigration and law enforcement by stating, "No country can survive open borders. No society can function when law enforcement is attacked for doing their job." She called for support of ICE, securing borders, and restoring the rule of law.

The following day, she shared significant news concerning local industry development. On June 9, 2025, she tweeted about the Rock Island Arsenal's achievement: "Big news out of the Rock Island Arsenal. RIA-JMTC has earned AS9100 aerospace certification." This certification is anticipated to bring new defense contracts and high-tech jobs to the area while bolstering national security.

Later that day, Rep. Miller-Meeks highlighted international trade relationships after meeting with Congressional Minister Ken Ono from the Japanese Embassy. In her tweet dated June 9, 2025, she remarked: "Great meeting with Congressional Minister Ken Ono from the Japanese Embassy." She noted Japan as Iowa’s third-largest export partner and underscored that strengthening this relationship could lead to more jobs and economic growth in Iowa.

Mariannette Miller-Meeks was born in Herlong, California in 1955 but now resides in Le Claire. She has served both in Congress since replacing Dave Loebsack in 2021 and previously held a position in the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021.
