Today, Senate Budget Committee Ranking Member Jeff Merkley issued a statement regarding the House Republicans' FY 2025 budget resolution. Merkley described the proposal as "one big, awful pile of junk," criticizing its potential impact on Medicaid, nutrition assistance for low-income families, and education funding.

Merkley highlighted that the proposed budget would facilitate a reconciliation bill aimed at financing substantial tax cuts for the wealthy. He expressed concern over the plan's approach to balancing these tax reductions by implementing significant cuts to essential programs for working families.

He stated: “Writing a multi-trillion-dollar tax giveaway for billionaires, paid for by multi-trillion-dollar cuts to programs for working families is a betrayal on the grandest scale." Merkley noted that while this resolution differs from what is currently under review in the Senate, it represents similar challenges for American working families.
