U.S. Representatives Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Debbie Dingell have reintroduced the bipartisan Medicaid Program Improvement Act, aimed at enhancing the accuracy of address information for Medicaid beneficiaries. This legislative effort seeks to ensure uninterrupted access to healthcare services for millions of Americans who depend on Medicaid.

"The Medicaid Program Improvement Act is a significant victory for individuals who rely on Medicaid for their health care," stated Congresswoman Miller-Meeks. She emphasized that by improving the processes for verifying and updating address information, the act safeguards program integrity and ensures beneficiaries receive necessary care without interruption. She expressed gratitude towards Rep. Dingell and other colleagues for supporting this legislation.

Congresswoman Dingell highlighted the importance of maintaining effective operations within Medicaid, which provides healthcare to millions, including children. "This bipartisan bill makes sure Medicaid beneficiaries’ personal information remains accurate and up to date to ensure seamless access to the services they depend on," she said. Dingell noted that while verifying and updating address information might seem basic, it is essential for providing timely and accurate care.

The act addresses issues caused by outdated or inaccurate address data, which can lead to beneficiaries being enrolled in multiple state programs, thereby disrupting their access to healthcare services. It proposes amendments to Title XIX of the Social Security Act, requiring state Medicaid programs to regularly verify and update beneficiary addresses. This measure aims to maintain eligibility without unnecessary service interruptions.

In 2024, the House passed the Medicaid Program Improvement Act; however, it stalled in the Senate.
