WASHINGTON DC – Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) marked the 249th birthday of the United States Army on the House Floor today. Shortly thereafter, Rep. Miller-Meeks voted in favor of H.R. 8070, the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025, which passed the House and includes a significant pay raise for troops.
The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is a critical piece of legislation that Congress must pass annually. This year's NDAA aims to enhance defense capabilities against both domestic and foreign threats while improving the quality of life for military personnel.
Key provisions in this year’s NDAA include:
- A 19.5% pay raise for junior servicemembers and a 4.5% raise for all other servicemembers.
- Expanded access to health and childcare services for troops.
- Improved housing conditions.
- Enhanced resources to counter threats from Communist China.
- Full funding for National Guard troops to secure the southern border.
- Reduction in funding for wasteful and inefficient programs within the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Pentagon.
