Hy-Vee recently donated $2,000 to the Muscatine County Freedom Rock project for a capstone paver, as well as a donation of 35 pairs of new shoes to the Muscatine Center for Social Action.
The donation of shoes will go to benefit the Center and the domestic violence shelter they operate, according to coverage by Discover Muscatine. The capstone for the plaza will join 500 other pavers supported through local donations and with each paying tribute to a local veteran.
The plaza surrounds the Freedom Rock painted by Rep. Ray “Bubba” Sorenson (R-Fornanelle) as a tribute to local veterans, according to Discover Muscatine. The Muscatine County Freedom Rock is set for an official unveiling on Sunday, Sept. 6.
Hy-Vee’s Tony Tone told Discover Muscatine that the donation of the shoes to the Muscatine Center for Social Action was an idea that came from one of the employees.
“Hy-Vee General Merchandise manager Brent Kuhlers wanted to make the donation of leftover DSW shoes and sandals to the Muscatine Center for Social Action along with designating some for their domestic violence shelter as well – we know that new shoes and sandals are oftentimes hard to come by for folks in-need,” Tone told Discover Muscatine.
