March is coming in like a lion at the Felix Adler Children's Discovery Center, "Clinton, Iowa's Children's Museum!” Two weeks of special Spring Break Afternoons are on the horizon along with the 32nd annual Omelet Breakfast Fundraiser on Sunday, March 22, and tickets are now on sale.
WOW Wednesday: Experiment with Colors
Wednesday, March 11, from 2 to 6 p.m. is a WOW Wednesday at the Discovery Center, sponsored by Clinton Lions Club. Stop by the Please-Touch-Table to experiment with the many colors of the rainbow.
Chess, juggling and logic puzzles are also a big hit every Wednesday at the Discovery Center. Miss Jean teaches beginning chess to all, from preschoolers through adult, or she will play a strategic game with an opponent to match their skill level. Additionally, she loves to juggle and can teach anyone of any age to become a successful juggler. Also, she has on hand three large cases of logic puzzles, construction materials, and hands on brain teasers to fascinate any age. She can teach anyone; all ages and abilities are welcome.
WOW Wednesday is perfect for school-aged kids and their families and is a great activity for a school early out afternoon. WOW Wednesday is drop in with no pre-registration required – it is an enrichment program with no extra class fee.
Funtime Friday: Jewel Day
Friday, March 13, at 10 a.m. is Funtime Friday, sponsored by Clinton Kiwanis Club and Alliant Energy Foundation. It is Jewel Day at Funtime Friday and you’re getting blinged out. Come learn about gemstones and their many meanings. A read-aloud story and a snack is also always part of the fun. This popular program is designed for preschoolers and their grown-ups, although all age children are welcome anytime.
Sunday Afternoons with Miss Jean
Save time in March for Sundays with Miss Jean on March 8 and 22, at the Discovery Center. This great program challenges minds of all ages and abilities. Learn to juggle, play chess and build your brain with awesome STEM & logic puzzles. Miss Jean will be here from 2 - 5 p.m., be sure to stop in for some family fun on a Sunday afternoon. The program is FREE with your museum admission.
Spring Break Afternoons
Join the Discovery Center from 2 to 6 p.m. each day for activities perfect for school-aged kids and their families. Each afternoon brings a different creative and engaging program led by museum staff. All ages are welcome to drop in and enjoy -- no pre-registration required! Wednesdays, March 18 and 25: Makers Workshop will bring hands-on crafts and creative freedom! Thursday, March 19 and 26: LEGO-Palooza! with countless amount of LEGOS to make amazing creations and construction challenges. Friday, March 20 and 27: Bounce-House into Spring with indoor jumping to bring fun and exercise that gets your kiddos jumping with glee.
Annual Omelet Breakfast
Save the date for the egg-straordinary 32nd annual Omelet Breakfast Fundraiser held at the Discovery Center, on Sunday, March 22, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is one egg-cellent opportunity to enjoy delicious food, good company, and support your local children’s museum. ‘Celebrity’ chefs will be serving made-to-order omelets and other delicious fare.
Community leaders who are volunteering their time to cook omelets, serve guests and support the children’s museum are: Chris Cournoyer, Tom Determann, Steve Diesch, Rita Hart, Gregg Obren, Cyara Peterson, Dan Srp, Chris Streets, Mary Wolf, Mike Wolf, Eric Van Lanker, and others.
The ticket price includes admission to the children's museum and guests are invited to stay and play. Tickets are on sale now at the Discovery Center: $9 in advance for adults and teens, and $10 at the door; $5 for children ages four to 12 years; and free for children ages three and younger.

The Discovery Center is located at 332 8th Avenue South in downtown Clinton, Iowa, at the foot of the U.S. 30 Bridge over the mighty Mississippi – where the Lincoln Highway meets the Great River Road. They are open Wednesdays through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays 12:30 to 5 p.m.. Museum admission is $4 per person ages two to 64, $3 per person ages 65 and older, free for children one and younger, and free for members of the children's museum.
The Felix Adler Children's Discovery Center is a non-profit children's museum whose mission is to provide a safe and positive environment for families to discover the world by exploring arts, culture, literacy and science through educational programs and interactive exhibits. They turn no one away based on inability to pay.
