Mariannette Miller-Meeks criticizes Democrats over government shutdown and pledges solidarity with unpaid workers

Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., who represents Iowa’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on X regarding the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on federal workers and servicemembers.

On October 15, 2025, Miller-Meeks wrote, "It is Day 15 of the Government Shutdown.

Thanks to @POTUS’s leadership, millions of servicemembers and their families received the paychecks they’ve earned, paychecks they would have otherwise missed because of this Democrat-led shutdown.

Miller-Meeks has represented Iowa's 1st District in Congress since 2021 after previously serving in the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021. She was born in Herlong, California in 1955 and currently resides in Le Claire. Miller-Meeks graduated from Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1976.
