U.S. Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who represents Iowa’s 1st district in Congress, addressed constituents through a series of posts on October 14, 2025, discussing the impact of the ongoing government shutdown and inviting participation in a public forum.

In her first post on October 14, Miller-Meeks stated, "At a time when our farmers need support the most, the USDA office in Indianola has been forced to close because of the Democrat Government Shutdown. Iowans deserve better than political games, it’s time to get the government working for the people again." The message highlighted her concerns about the effect of the shutdown on agricultural services in Iowa.

Later that day, Miller-Meeks shared a personal message remembering an individual named Charlie. She wrote, "Happy Heavenly Birthday, Charlie. Thinking of Erika, their two beautiful kids, and everyone who still feels this loss. Praying for comfort and peace today."

In another post on October 14, Miller-Meeks invited constituents to participate in an upcoming telephone town hall regarding the government shutdown. She wrote, "Join me tomorrow night for a Telephone Town Hall where we’ll discuss the ongoing government shutdown and more! Wednesday, October 15th 6:30 PM CT Link to RSVP: https://t.co/aXGjf7dvmI"

Miller-Meeks has served as the U.S. Representative for Iowa’s 1st district since 2021, following her tenure in the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021. She succeeded Dave Loebsack in Congress. Born in Herlong, California in 1955, Miller-Meeks currently resides in Le Claire and holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Christian University.
