Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., a U.S. Congresswoman representing Iowa’s 1st district, posted a series of tweets on October 9, 2025, addressing the ongoing government shutdown, federal worker pay issues, and her support for local law enforcement.
In a tweet posted at 16:01 UTC, Miller-Meeks stated, "The American people deserve leadership that works for them, not one that uses them as leverage. Democrats own this government shutdown."
An hour later, she referenced comments by Senator Schumer regarding the impact of the shutdown on federal workers and families. At 17:06 UTC, Miller-Meeks wrote, '"Every day gets better for us" said Senator Schumer while our federal workers and service members are working without pay, and families across the country are facing major disruptions in services because his party is prioritizing taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal immigrants.'
Later in the day, at 19:44 UTC, Miller-Meeks shared her experience participating in a ride-along with Muscatine County Sheriff’s deputies. Miller-Meeks has served in the U.S. Congress since 2021 after replacing Dave Loebsack and previously served in the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021. She was born in Herlong, California in 1955 and currently resides in Le Claire. Miller-Meeks holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Christian University.
