Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Iowa’s 1st district, posted a series of statements on her official social media account addressing both international and domestic issues.
On October 7, 2025, Miller-Meeks referenced the anniversary of a deadly attack in Israel, writing: "Two years ago, Hamas terrorists launched the deadliest attack in Israel’s history, murdering 1,200 innocent people and taking hostages who are still not home. Israel has every right to defend itself, and I stand with the families praying for their loved ones’ safe return. "
Later that day, she commented on ongoing government funding negotiations: "It is now Day 7 of the Democrat Government Shutdown. The House has already passed a clean, bipartisan bill to keep the government open. I voted YES. Democrats need to do what’s right and end this shutdown now."
On October 8, Miller-Meeks continued her criticism of the shutdown's impact on Iowa: "It’s now Day 8 of the Democrat Government Shutdown. Every week this shutdown continues, Iowa loses $137 million in economic growth. That’s fewer jobs, smaller paychecks, and more families struggling, all because Democrats are prioritizing illegal immigrants over American".
Miller-Meeks began serving as a member of Congress for Iowa's 1st District in 2021 after replacing Dave Loebsack; prior to that she served in the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021. She was born in Herlong, California in 1955 and currently resides in Le Claire at age 67. Miller-Meeks earned her BSN from Texas Christian University in 1976.
