U.S. Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who represents Iowa’s 1st district in Congress, posted a series of statements on September 30, 2025, criticizing Democrats over the possibility of a government shutdown and their approach to ongoing budget negotiations.

In her first post at 14:02 UTC, Miller-Meeks stated, "Unless they pass our bipartisan, clean CR by midnight, Democrats will be shutting down the government. Seniors, veterans, farmers, military families, and millions of Americans will pay the price, all because Democrats are demanding $1.5 trillion in new spending and".

Later that day at 15:48 UTC, she continued her criticism with another post: "The American people deserve answers from the Democrats."

At 17:54 UTC on the same day, Miller-Meeks commented further on the actions of Democratic lawmakers: "For Democrats, it’s all theater. Under the Biden Administration, Democrats have voted for 13 previous continuing resolutions. But this time, instead of keeping the government open with a bipartisan, already-passed clean CR, they’re staging marathon livestreams. Our troops,"

Miller-Meeks has represented Iowa’s 1st congressional district since 2021 after succeeding Dave Loebsack and previously served in the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021. She was born in Herlong, California in 1955 and currently resides in Le Claire. Miller-Meeks holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Christian University.
