U.S. Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., who represents Iowa’s 1st district in Congress, addressed several issues in a series of posts on her official Twitter account between September 19 and September 21, 2025.
On September 19, Miller-Meeks criticized Democrats over government funding negotiations. She wrote, "Democrats are once again playing politics with a shutdown, putting veterans, our military, seniors, farmers, and families at risk. House Republicans are doing our job: moving the remaining 9 appropriations bills to responsibly fund the government and advance @POTUS’s America".
Later that day, she commented on a Congressional resolution honoring Charlie Kirk. In her post dated September 19, Miller-Meeks stated, "Charlie Kirk was a husband, father, son, brother, and an inspiration to millions. I wish he were still with us and that a resolution honoring his life wasn’t necessary. But I was proud to vote for it, ensuring his legacy is permanently remembered in the history of Congress."
On September 21, Miller-Meeks discussed recent changes to the Child Tax Credit and its impact on Iowa families. She posted: "As a mother, I know how expensive it is to raise a family. That’s why I fought to increase the Child Tax Credit in the Working Families Tax Cut, after Democrats voted to cut it in half. Now it’s signed into law and will deliver real relief to Iowa families."
Miller-Meeks has served as U.S. Representative for Iowa's 1st district since replacing Dave Loebsack in 2021. Prior to her time in Congress she served in the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021. Born in Herlong, California in 1955 and currently residing in Le Claire at age 67, Miller-Meeks earned her BSN from Texas Christian University in 1976.
