Mariannette Miller-Meeks addresses interest rates, rural health funding and crime legislation

Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., a member of the U.S. Congress representing Iowa’s 1st district since 2021, posted a series of updates on September 17, 2025, addressing economic relief measures, rural health initiatives, and public safety legislation.

In her first post at 18:51 UTC, Miller-Meeks welcomed recent federal economic actions: "The Fed’s interest rate cut is welcome relief for Iowa families, small businesses, and first-time homebuyers. Combined with the Working Families Tax Cut, the largest tax cut in U.S. history, @HouseGOP and @POTUS are restoring the American Dream and delivering for working".

Later that day at 20:29 UTC, she discussed healthcare policy following a meeting with local providers: "I met with Iowa Community Health Centers to discuss support in appropriations and transparency in the 340B program. We also discussed the first-of-its-kind $50 billion Rural Health Transformation Program, which will strengthen rural hospitals, support health care providers...".

At 22:40 UTC on September 17th, Miller-Meeks highlighted legislative efforts on public safety: "President Trump made D.C. safer, and House Republicans just delivered lasting solutions:

H.R. 4922 – Blocked soft-on-crime sentencing

H.R. 5140 – Lowered juvenile age for violent crimes

H.R. 5143 – Restored police pursuit powers

H.R. 5125 – Reformed judicial".

Miller-Meeks has served in Congress since replacing Dave Loebsack in January 2021 after previously serving in the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021. She was born in Herlong, California in 1955 and currently resides in Le Claire. Miller-Meeks holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Christian University (1976).
