Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., a U.S. Congresswoman representing Iowa’s 1st district since 2021, posted a series of updates on September 11, 2025, regarding the administrative response to a teacher's social media post about Charlie Kirk.

Later that evening at 19:45 UTC, she addressed the University of Iowa Center for Intellectual Freedom and referenced Charlie Kirk’s contributions: "The University of Iowa Center for Intellectual Freedom should live up to its name by honoring a true defender of free speech and open debate.

Charlie Kirk dedicated his life to advancing intellectual freedom, empowering students, and challenging the cancel culture mob that seeks".

By 21:55 UTC, Miller-Meeks provided another update on the situation involving the teacher: "UPDATE: the Superintendent has officially recommended the termination of the teacher who made that horrendous post celebrating the assassination of Charlie Kirk. https://t.co/tKhrALyAWo https://t.co/PZeb7JAjHu".
