Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., who represents Iowa’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets addressing Medicaid support for people with disabilities, new funding for nurse recruitment in Iowa, and federal crime enforcement actions.
On September 9, 2025, Miller-Meeks wrote about her meeting with the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR), stating: "Great meeting with the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR) to discuss our efforts to strengthen Medicaid long-term to better care for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities."
Later that day, she commented on an initiative by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), posting: "Big win for Iowa families! CMS is launching a fund to recruit and train nurses, giving facilities the staff and support they need to provide quality care for Iowa's seniors. Thank you, @DrOzCMS!" This announcement comes as nursing shortages have affected healthcare facilities nationwide.
On September 10, 2025, Miller-Meeks addressed law enforcement policies in cities led by Democrats. She tweeted: ".@POTUS and the DOJ are doing what Democrat leaders refuse to do. Let’s be clear: federal charges are only necessary because Democrat-run cities refuse to enforce the law. Their pro-crime policies release violent offenders back on the streets, and innocent people like Iryna pay"
Miller-Meeks has served in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Dave Loebsack. She previously represented her community in the Iowa Senate from 2019 until her election to Congress. Born in Herlong, California in 1955 and currently residing in Le Claire, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Christian University in 1976.
