Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., a U.S. Congresswoman representing Iowa’s 1st district, recently posted several updates on her official Twitter account regarding national remembrance, support for emergency services, and legislative priorities.
On August 26, 2025, Miller-Meeks marked the anniversary of the Abbey Gate attack in Afghanistan with a message honoring fallen service members: "Four years ago today, we lost 13 brave U.S. service members in the horrific Abbey Gate attack during the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. We will never forget their sacrifice, their courage, or the families they left behind. May God bless the fallen, their loved ones," she wrote.
Later that day, she shared details about her engagement with local first responders: "I sat down with law enforcement and EMS leaders in Lee County to talk about how we can better support those who protect and serve. We discussed recruitment and retention, funding for emergency services, and how provisions in reconciliation like No Tax on Overtime and expanded" (August 26).
On August 27, Miller-Meeks highlighted her meeting with a civic group: "I joined the Burlington Rotary to share updates on the upcoming session. We discussed the importance of passing the remaining appropriations bills, getting a strong Farm Bill across the finish line, and keeping the government open. I’ll continue working to deliver results and".
Miller-Meeks has represented Iowa’s 1st District in Congress since 2021 after previously serving in the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021. Born in Herlong, California in 1955 and currently residing in Le Claire at age 67, Miller-Meeks holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Christian University.
