U.S. Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) hosted a roundtable in Clinton, Iowa with restaurant and hotel owners from across the First District. The discussion focused on how provisions in the reconciliation bill are affecting small businesses, workers, and local communities.

Participants highlighted key measures such as Section 199A, which provides small businesses with a 20% tax deduction. Other topics included “No Tax on Overtime” and “No Tax on Tips,” reforms aimed at providing tax certainty for business owners, allowing employees to retain more of their pay, and encouraging reinvestment in the state’s economy.

“Iowa’s small businesses are the backbone of our communities, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to hear directly from restaurant and hotel owners about how reconciliation’s pro-growth provisions are making a difference,” said Miller-Meeks. “Their insights are invaluable as we continue to work together to grow jobs, cut red tape, and expand opportunity here in Iowa.”

The conversation also addressed regulatory barriers facing small business owners and explored ways Congress could help reduce unnecessary burdens so that more resources can be directed toward supporting employees and customers.

This event follows Miller-Meeks’ Made in America Manufacturing Tour earlier in the week, reflecting her continued focus on ensuring Iowa businesses have what they need to drive economic growth.

Miller-Meeks has represented Iowa's 1st district since replacing Dave Loebsack in 2021. She previously served in the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021. Born in Herlong, California in 1955, she currently lives in Le Claire. She graduated from Texas Christian University with a BSN in 1976.
