U.S. Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) visited Oertel Metal Works in Davenport to tour the facility and participate in a roundtable discussion with employees. The visit focused on how recent small business and manufacturing provisions in the reconciliation bill are affecting growth, job creation, and Iowa’s economy.

“Oertel Metal Works is a great example of how small businesses are powering Iowa’s economy and why pro-growth policies matter,” said Miller-Meeks. “Thanks to provisions like 100% immediate expensing for capital investments, the permanent 199A deduction, and relief from overtime taxes, companies like Oertel can continue to invest in state-of-the-art equipment, expand operations, and create good-paying jobs. These are the kinds of policies that make it possible for small businesses to compete, grow, and keep opportunity right here in Iowa.”

The visit followed Miller-Meeks’ Made in America Manufacturing Tour. During this tour she met with workers and leaders at several companies including Cemen Tech in Indianola, Vermeer in Pella, and SSAB in Muscatine. The First District has Iowa’s largest concentration of manufacturing businesses.

According to Miller-Meeks’ office, the reconciliation bill continues efforts begun under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act by securing pro-growth measures that allow businesses to reinvest earnings into their operations. These measures include expanded capital cost recovery options and tax relief for employees. The reforms aim to help both large manufacturers and smaller businesses stay competitive globally while maintaining jobs within Iowa.

Miller-Meeks has represented Iowa's 1st district since 2021 after succeeding Dave Loebsack (https://millermeeks.house.gov/about). She previously served as an Iowa state senator from 2019 until her election to Congress (https://ballotpedia.org/Mariannette_Miller-Meeks). Born in Herlong, California in 1955, she now lives in Le Claire (https://justfacts.votesmart.org/candidate/biography/103468/mariannette-miller-meeks).
