U.S. Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., representing Iowa’s 1st district since 2021, recently posted a series of statements on her official Twitter account addressing drug policy, veterans’ affairs, and rural healthcare investment.
On July 25, 2025, Miller-Meeks highlighted the dangers of fentanyl in the United States and her legislative efforts to address the crisis. She wrote: "Fentanyl is killing more Americans than any drug in history. That’s why I helped pass the HALT Fentanyl Act, reintroduced the Cooper Davis & Devin Norring Act to crack down on online sales, and backed the One Big Beautiful Bill to secure the border."
Later that day, she commented on U.S. foreign policy regarding Afghanistan veterans and allies: "President Trump gets it.
These folks fought beside us. Bled beside us. Died for our flag. Then, Joe Biden left them to suffer at the hands of the Taliban.
I will be working on legislation to honor our promise and help those who stood by us. I look forward to working with @POTUS" (July 25, 2025).
On July 26, Miller-Meeks discussed a significant investment in rural healthcare through new federal legislation: "The One Big Beautiful Bill delivers the largest rural healthcare investment in American history: $50 BILLION for the Rural Health Transformation Program.
This funding will help rural hospitals and ensure patients can get care close to home. Proud to have worked with @POTUS to"
Miller-Meeks has represented Iowa’s 1st District since replacing Dave Loebsack in Congress in 2021 and previously served in the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021. Born in Herlong, California in 1955 and currently residing in Le Claire, she holds a BSN from Texas Christian University earned in 1976.
