Mariannette Miller-Meeks highlights new fentanyl law and farm policy achievements

Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., a member of the U.S. Congress representing Iowa’s 1st district, announced via her Twitter account that President Trump has signed the HALT Fentanyl Act into law and discussed legislative efforts to support farmers in Iowa.

On July 16, 2025, Miller-Meeks posted, "President Trump just signed the HALT Fentanyl Act into law! A huge win for law enforcement and every community battling this deadly drug. As an original cosponsor, I’m proud to help deliver the tools needed to get fentanyl off our streets and save lives."

Later that day, she shared details from a meeting with agricultural organizations: "Great meeting with the Iowa and American Soybean Associations to talk about how the One Big Beautiful Bill delivers for farmers by providing permanent relief from the death tax, locking in the 199A deduction, and investing billions in conservation. On July 17, 2025, Miller-Meeks followed up on fentanyl legislation progress: "The fentanyl crisis has plagued our nation for far too long. I'm grateful that @POTUS signed our HALT Fentanyl Act into law, equipping law enforcement with the tools they need to combat fentanyl and save lives."

Miller-Meeks has served as a representative of Iowa’s 1st District since 2021 after succeeding Dave Loebsack. Before her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021. Born in Herlong, California in 1955 and currently residing in Le Claire, Miller-Meeks earned her BSN from Texas Christian University in 1976.
