Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., who has served Iowa’s 1st District in the U.S. Congress since 2021, recently shared a series of statements on social media addressing national security, public benefits, and local disaster recovery. The posts reflect her positions on foreign ownership of land, eligibility for taxpayer-funded programs, and assistance for flood victims in her district.

On July 13, 2025, Miller-Meeks raised concerns regarding Chinese investment in U.S. land and intellectual property. She stated: "China steals up to $600 billion a year in U.S. intellectual property and has been quietly buying up our farmland and land near military bases. They don’t respect our laws, and they shouldn’t own an inch of our land. Not now, not ever."

The following day, July 14, 2025, she commented on eligibility for public benefit programs funded by taxpayers: "Taxpayer-funded benefit programs should be for American citizens, not illegal immigrants."

Also on July 14, Miller-Meeks provided information to constituents affected by recent flooding in Davenport and Scott County. She wrote: " Davenport & Scott County residents recovering from July 11 flooding: The Red Cross shelter remains open at JB Young Opportunity Center (1702 N. Main St, Davenport). For help: 1-800-RED-CROSS. Starting today, free cleanup kits are available at: — Salvation Army Moline (2200"

Mariannette Miller-Meeks replaced Dave Loebsack as representative of Iowa’s 1st District in 2021 after previously serving in the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021. Born in Herlong, California in 1955 and currently residing in Le Claire, she earned her BSN from Texas Christian University in 1976.
