Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D., a current U.S. Congress member representing Iowa’s 1st district, has recently expressed her views on issues concerning family farms and foreign land ownership through a series of tweets.

On July 9, 2025, Rep. Miller-Meeks addressed the concern that "Family farms shouldn’t be auctioned off to pay the IRS." She highlighted the "One Big Beautiful Bill" which aims to raise the estate tax exemption. This legislative measure is designed to protect generational farms and small businesses in Iowa, ensuring they can be passed down to future generations. "Family farms shouldn’t be auctioned off to pay the IRS."

Later that day, she further emphasized her support for Iowan farmers by stating that passing one's farm to children should not necessitate selling it to pay taxes. The bill she mentioned offers permanent relief from what is often referred to as the Death Tax for these farmers. " Passing your farm to your kids Selling it to pay the IRS"

Additionally, Rep. Miller-Meeks took a firm stance against foreign ownership of American land in her subsequent tweet. She called for an end to what she described as "Communist China’s land grab," voicing opposition to foreign entities buying farmland and land near military bases in America. "Communist China’s land grab must end."

Miller-Meeks has been serving in Congress since 2021 after replacing Dave Loebsack and previously served in the Iowa Senate from 2019-2021. Born in Herlong, California, she resides in Le Claire and holds a BSN from Texas Christian University.
