U.S. Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks recently joined Secretary of the Army Driscoll for a visit to the Rock Island Arsenal, an important logistics and manufacturing center in the United States. During their time at the site, they participated in a mission briefing and toured its manufacturing operations.
Miller-Meeks expressed her commitment to supporting Rock Island Arsenal, stating: "Rock Island Arsenal has always been a pillar of strength for our national defense and the Quad Cities region." As a veteran herself, she emphasized the importance of listening to those who maintain this installation. "I remain committed to protecting the Arsenal, supporting its workforce, and ensuring it continues to serve our nation for generations to come."
The visit also included discussions on how legislative measures like full expensing within the One Big Beautiful Bill Act could modernize equipment production capabilities at Rock Island Arsenal and drive innovation in defense manufacturing.
Earlier this year, Miller-Meeks sent a letter to Secretary Driscoll expressing concern over potential reductions in force due to consolidation efforts involving Joint Munitions Command (JMC) and Army Sustainment Command (ASC). She highlighted Rock Island Arsenal's critical role in military readiness and its economic impact on the Quad Cities region.
The Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce reports that Rock Island Arsenal supports more than 15,000 jobs and contributes over $1.2 billion annually to the local economy. It provides command support for various military entities and plays a significant role in advanced manufacturing.
Miller-Meeks serves on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee and has consistently advocated for strengthening Rock Island Arsenal through legislative measures like the National Defense Authorization Act. Nearly half of those employed at the arsenal reside in Iowa, with many being veterans continuing their service as civilians.
