U.S. Representatives Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-25), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), and Troy A. Carter, Sr. (LA-02) have introduced the bipartisan Jewish American Heritage Month Resolution in Washington DC today. The resolution seeks to acknowledge the substantial contributions of Jewish Americans to the United States' society and culture.
Congresswoman Miller-Meeks stated, “I am proud to join Reps. Wasserman Schultz, Miller, and Fitzpatrick in leading the bipartisan charge in Congress to recognize May as Jewish American Heritage Month." She emphasized the importance of this effort at a time when antisemitism continues to surface across the country and pledged her continued support for efforts to counter antisemitism.
Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz celebrated the 18th year of Jewish American Heritage Month by highlighting the significant contributions that generations of Jewish Americans have made to shape our nation’s history, culture, and society. She also stressed that this celebration is one of the most effective ways to combat rising antisemitism.
CongressmanFitzpatrick expressed his pride in recognizing the meaningful contributions of the American Jewish community to our nation’s history and culture. As a Co-Chair of the Bipartisan Task Force for Combatting Antisemitism, he committed himself to commemorating all that Jewish Americans have given to our nation and fighting against the alarming rise in antisemitism and hate.
CongressmanCarter stated that "Jewish American Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the rich contributions of Jewish Americans to our nation." He underscored that this resolution both honors Jewish American heritage and sends a powerful message of solidarity and support to Jewish communities across the country.
The United States observes Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) annually each May. This observance encourages all Americans to learn more about Jewish culture and pay tribute to generations of Jewish Americans who have helped shape American history. JAHM was first introduced as a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives by Wasserman Schultz, and in the U.S. Senate by the late Arlen Specter in 2006.
Jonathan Greenblatt, ADL CEO, expressed his gratitude to the representatives for introducing this bipartisan resolution that celebrates the accomplishments of the American Jewish community and helps build understanding and allyship.
Ted Deutch, CEO of American Jewish Committee, emphasized that "Jewish American Heritage Month is an opportunity for all Americans to get to know and understand the diversity within the Jewish community."
Sheila Katz, CEO of National Council of Jewish Women, urged everyone to honor the profound contributions of Jewish women to our country during Jewish American Heritage Month.
