Lifestyle Medicine for Social Workers: Interventions for Self-care and for Client Empowerment on Oct 14

Lifestyle Medicine for Social Workers: Interventions for Self-care and for Client Empowerment

10/14/2022

1:00 - 4:15 P.M.

WEBEX

Lifestyle Medicine (LM) is the practice of partnering with client systems to adopt and sustain behaviors to improve health and quality of life. The six evidence-based principles of LM to treat and reverse disease include a whole-food, plant-predominant diet, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances, and positive social connection.

Social work professionals would benefit by including this knowledge in their frameworks for practice and for their own self-care. Client-centered and strength-based, LM offers an empowering approach for clients to make changes in their health and well-being. This workshop will explicate the principles of LM, and offer case examples. Tools and references for further study will be provided.

Presenting this year's conference is Pamela Carlson Long, ACSW, LISW, LCSW, Professor Emerita of the SAU School of Social Work.
