It's a common occurrence these days: events and activities that were put on hold since early 2020 returned for the first time this year.
One of them, however, will have to wait another year.
Due to severe weather on Aug. 20, a favorite St. Ambrose tradition – Beecoming Ambrosian (formerly Urban Plunge) – was canceled. For those hundreds of lucky students who got to sleep in that morning, however, Beecoming Ambrosian will not be the only chance they get to give back to the Quad Cities community.
Throughout the year, St. Ambrose students from First-year to Seniors have multiple opportunities to volunteer. Student clubs, sports teams, and courses with service-learning components all include service as part of participation, and Campus Ministry organizes many more opportunities. The act of serving others is Christ-like and therefore important that young adults learn why serving others and caring for the poor is foundational to a functioning society. The hope, of course, is that after students graduate from SAU they carry their benevolence and joy of serving forward into their own communities.
Here are just a few of the volunteer activities and projects Ambrose students perform throughout the year:
- Bee the Difference Day (annually, Sept/Oct). Help dozens of SAU neighbors with fall clean-up chores.
- Collections for the needy
- Giving Trees for families (Nov/Dec)
- Spring Break service trips to other communities
Thank you!
Beecoming Ambrosian isn't possible without these generous sponsors!
Several local companies (listed above) sponsor Beecoming Ambrosian by providing funds to purchase T-shirts, snacks, tools, equipment, and more for the day's work. Their commitment to service inspires our own students!
