First Annual Student Vendor Fair 2022

406

Saint Ambrose University recently issued the following announcement.

The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well at St. Ambrose University!

At the first annual Student Vendor Fair hosted by the SAU Enactus Club, you will see collaboration and innovation at their finest as you shop an array of items produced by St. Ambrose entrepreneurs.

"We usually focus on gaining entrepreneurial skills through the community projects we do, such as working with Hilltop businesses and non-profits," said Jason Senjem, PhD, Enactus Advisor and Associate Professor and Chair of the Management Department. "But what we haven't done is to engage with students who are running their own businesses. We hope that by having a vendor fair we can help bring visibility to the entrepreneurship that is in our midst and showcase students' creativity as inspiration to others."

Enactus is an international network of business, academic, and student leaders united in experiential learning with the key mission to "engage the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders to use innovation and business principles to improve the world."

The SAU Enactus Club strives to empower the community through entrepreneurial action and improve the livelihoods of those around us in an economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable way-and they certainly have numerous success stories to attest to this.

Most recently, they have spearheaded a campus bike rental program with the goal of engaging students within the community.

"Having bikes on campus gives students an affordable and convenient opportunity to explore the parks and shops in the campus community area," said Emily Chezum, previous Enactus president.

In partnership with the SAU Engineering Club, Enactus members have also established the Ambrose Design Hive business. Worker bees from both clubs combined their talents from business modeling and engineering design to start a successful laser-engraving business that creates and sells themed, wooden ornaments.

In addition, SAU Enactus members have had success with several other business endeavors, including a skateboard business, a recycling program for local parks, social media marketing, special needs classroom design, and partnerships with the Main Street Iowa program and the SAU Sustainability Committee.

The Student Vendor Fair will showcase a variety of unique business ventures, from organic candles to graphic design.

"We also hope to connect these student businesses to other opportunities such as our Alumni-owned business page and the Freight House Farmers' Market. We think we can make this a regular event, and we hope to link this to our vision of a business accelerator for student-run businesses," said Senjem.
