Democratic candidate Jennifer Kakert lost her election bid for the District 92 House seat and conceded defeat to Republican incumbent Ross C. Paustian.

Kakert, who did not hide her disappointment, thanked her supporters on her Facebook page. 

"While I’m disappointed we came up short tonight, I’m proud of the campaign we ran to bring balanced, responsible leadership back to the State House. I am extremely grateful to my family, friends, volunteers, and staff who worked so hard on my campaign this year. 

"It’s been a great opportunity for me to talk with voters in this district to learn what’s important to them, and how we can make life better for everyone in Eastern Iowa," she wrote, adding that she plans to remain active in her community;  

"I will continue to be involved with community service and will be an advocate to improve the lives in my community. Thank you."
