Democratic House District 97 candidate Ryan Zeskey was defeated by Republican incumbent Norlin Mommsens. Zeskey conceded his loss and thanked supporters on his Facebook page.

“Thank you to all of the people who supported me this year. I’m proud to have been able to speak on behalf of so many in my community who want change for their families, their friends, and their futures.”

Quoting John Lewis, he added that he will continue working to improve livelihoods, despite being defeated.

“I’m committed to making things better, but will not be doing so from a seat in Iowa government. I congratulated the incumbent on his re-election and look forward to my next opportunity to serve. There is much still to be done. ‘When you see something that is not right, not fair, not just, you have to speak up. You have to say something; you have to do something.’-John Lewis,” he wrote.
