Black Hawk and Scott County are being sued in federal court by the Iowa Voters Alliance (IVA), a pro-life group in Chicago, according to KWWL.
Documentation reveals that both counties accepted grant money from the Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL). CTCL is a nonprofit organization that modernizes elections.
The organization alleges that the grant was given to the counties to be used to cover partial costs of elections during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now, IVA is suing both counties, alleging that the counties didn't use the grant as agreed upon. IVA said that Black Hawk County received a total of $267,500 in grant funds, and Scott County received $286,870.
KWWL asked IVA officials about the lawsuit, but a spokesman was advised by the county attorney not to speak about the case.
Records indicate that nearly 50 auditors across Iowa accepted grants from the organization, but only Black Hawk and Scott Counties were tapped in the suit.
