Scott County and nine others have been approved for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Individual Assistance Program after the derecho that hit Iowa devastated the counties, Gov. Kim Reynolds said.
Receiving individual assistance can help businesses, homeowners and renters maximize their recovery, according to the Muscatine Journal. Assistance can help with replacing personal property and with medical expenses.
Counties in addition to Scott County that have been approved include Benton, Boone, Jasper, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Story, Cedar and Tama counties.
Individuals can apply for assistance at disasterassistance.gov or call FEMA at 1-(800) 621-3362.
Counties that have been approved for FEMA assistance are no longer eligible for the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program, the Muscatine Journal reported.
Other counties that have been previously approved for FEMA's Individual Assistance Program include Clinton, Dallas, Johnson, Jones, Linn and Muscatine.
