Clinton County Sheriff's Office deputies will now be outfitted with body-worn cameras.
"The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the implementation of body worn cameras," Sheriff Rick Lincoln said in a media release. "The need for body worn cameras was identified by Chief Deputy Steve Diesch. In 2018 he began researching body worn camera systems and policies."
Diesch led the department to select the Panasonic Arbitrator Body Worn Cameras because of their compatibility with the department's current Arbitrator Mobile Video in-car recording system.
Videos will be stored on county-owned servers instead of having to pay a recurring monthly charge to store the data offsite.
Cost to taxpayers was considered when debating implementation. Cameras were paid for by the Clinton County Sheriff's Office seizure and forfeiture funds.
Lincoln said in a release that the intent of the body cameras is to provide safety and transparency to the public and sheriff's office personnel.
