Sheriff's Deputy Sean Thompson has been promoted to the rank of sergeant, according to a Scott County press release.

Thompson, a graduate of Davenport High School, joined the United States Marine Corps and served in Persian Gulf, Japan, Fort Bliss, Texas, Kuwait and Iraq. He earned the Combat Action Ribbon, the Southwest Asia Medal, the National Defense Medal and the Kuwait Liberation Medal and numerous other honors and recognitions. He was honorably discharged in 1994 and spent the next four years in the In-active Reserves.

Thompson joined the Scott County Sheriff's Office Reserves in 2008 and became a full-time deputy in 2009. As a deputy, he has served in the Patrol Division, the Civil Division, has been a member of the FBI Gang Task Force, worked as an accident investigator, a field training officer, an SRT commander and sniper, the Iowa Sheriffs and Deputies Association legislation representative and is the former president and vice president of the Deputy Sheriffs Association union.
