Mike Miller, president of River Bend Food Bank located in Dubuque and manager the St. Stephens Food Bank, said both food banks have given out 34% more food in the month of April than their usual amount in the past 12 months, according to KCRG 9.

Miller said that the influence of the COVID-19 crisis on food banks is prominent in Eastern Iowa.

"We are dealing with what I am calling a triple threat of problems right now," Miller told KCRG 9.

Miller added that the amount of food donated to the food banks is insufficient. So, they have to go out and buy food to give out to hungry residents.

"Food donations are actually down so we are having to try to purchase food," Miller told KCRG 9.

Miller also said that for the protection of residents and staff, they limited the amount of traffic coming in and going out of the building to combat the spread of the virus.

"We normally have hundreds of people in and out of the building on a daily basis and we have had to button that up for the protection of everyone involved," Miller told KCRG 9.
