Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who represents Iowa’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on her official X account addressing national and local issues between October 13 and 14, 2025.
On October 13, Miller-Meeks acknowledged the long-standing service of the United States Navy, writing, "For 250 years, the United States Navy has stood watch over freedom, protecting our shores and defending liberty around the world. To every sailor, veteran, and Navy family, thank you for your service and sacrifice. ️"
Later that day, she shared details from a visit to a local school: "It was such a joy visiting Oskaloosa Elementary School! I had the privilege of reading to Mrs. Mason’s 3rd-grade class and touring the school with their incredible 5th-grade student ambassadors. Thank you to the dedicated teachers, staff, and students for the warm welcome."
On October 14, Miller-Meeks commented on ongoing government funding negotiations in Washington. She stated, "Day 14 of the Schumer Shutdown. Democrats have voted eight times to keep the government closed and deny paychecks to our troops and those who keep us safe. It’s time for them to do what’s right and vote to reopen the government for the American people."
Miller-Meeks has represented Iowa's 1st District in Congress since 2021 after serving in the Iowa Senate from 2019 to 2021. She succeeded Dave Loebsack in Congress and resides in Le Claire. Born in Herlong, California in 1955, she earned her BSN from Texas Christian University in 1976.
