Senate Budget Committee Ranking Member Jeff Merkley expressed strong opposition to the House Republicans' FY 2025 budget resolution. Following a vote to advance the proposal, Merkley criticized the plan for its potential impact on American families and its fiscal implications.

Merkley stated, "The House Republican budget plan does three things: slashes programs for families, hands even more massive tax giveaways to billionaires, and explodes the deficit—each of which is incredibly unpopular on its own." He further described the combination of these elements as "a disaster for hardworking Americans."

He emphasized his commitment to opposing the proposal in his capacity as Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee. "This is all part of the Republican plan: families lose, billionaires win. I will do everything in my power as Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee to stop their plan in its tracks," Merkley declared.
