Senator Grassley criticized President Biden's budget proposal, calling it a "far-left wish list" that offers false promises and fails to address the nation's fiscal challenges. Grassley expressed his disappointment, stating, "For three years, the president has embarked on a far-left agenda. He’s taken a 'my way or the highway' approach to governing, where those who disagree with him are attacked as extremists." Grassley highlighted the growing national debt, which has surpassed $34 trillion, and criticized the budget for proposing $5 trillion in new tax hikes.

Grassley emphasized the unsustainable nature of the budget, noting that even if all the proposed tax increases were implemented, it would not be sufficient to address the monumental debt and deficits facing the country. He pointed out that the budget includes $2.5 trillion in new mandatory spending, leading to one of the largest expansions of the federal government in American history. Grassley warned that such policies would result in higher taxes and prices for Americans of all income levels.

The Senator also referenced concerns about the implications of the budget on future generations, stating, "If the other side disagrees with me, then I challenge them to set a date to markup this budget. It won’t happen, because even most Democrats wouldn’t vote for this calamity." Grassley concluded by calling the budget proposal a lost opportunity for President Biden to show leadership on crucial fiscal issues.

In response to the budget's implications, Grassley quoted former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, saying, "The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money." He cautioned against unsustainable spending and emphasized the need for responsible budgeting to prevent a fiscal crisis in the future.
