Iowa recently received infrastructure funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), the House Republican Caucus Newsletter reported Dec. 5.
The state received funding from the DOT Build program. The federal monies are earmarked for projects in Des Moines and Dubuque.
The Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization received $25 million to fund the first phase of a multi-phased project, according to the report.
The project aims to correct a dangerous low-head dam at Scott Avenue, develop a water recreational trail and upgrade three access points along a 5-mile stretch of the Des Moines River that fall within the city limits.
Dubuque County was provided more than $5.4 million for roadway repairs, intersection improvements and a trail extension on the northwest side of Dubuque. The funding will also be used to resurface, rehabilitate, resurface and reconstruct nearly 3.1 miles of the Northwest Arterial.
