City of West Liberty issued the following announcement on Oct. 20.
It a violation of the city’s municipal code to blow or rake grass clipping and leaves into city streets. When yard waste is discarded or blown into the street system, it can cause drainage/sewage issues. Public works employees try to keep storm drains open and leaves can block downstream storm water inlet grates and pipes, causing storm water to back up unto the street, creating flooding conditions. We have started the leaf vacuum, however there is no schedule due to delays of rain and frost which can cause 2 and 3 days delays. This is a courtesy service and is only available until first snow fall. Remember the same crew running the leaf vac are the same employees conducting your recycling, garbage, snow removal and providing utility services.
